Situation of human rights in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
Note by the secretariat
1. The secretariat has the honour to inform the Commission on Human Rights that, following the resignation of Mr. Roberto Garretón in November 2001, Ms. Iulia Antoanella Motoc (Romania) was appointed Special Rapporteur of the Commission on Human Rights on the situation of human rights in the Democratic Republic of the Congo on 28 November 2001.
2. In view of her late appointment and the scheduling of her first mission to the Democratic Republic of the Congo for February 2002, the Special Rapporteur will not be in a position to make a full report to the Commission at the present session. Upon completion of her mission she plans to make an oral presentation to the Commission.
