At its 56th meeting, on 11 April 1997, the Commission on Human Rights, taking note of resolution1996/19 of 29August1996 of the Sub-Commission on Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities, decided, without a vote, to endorse the decision of the Sub-Commission to extend the mandate of the Special Rapporteur, Ms.HalimaEmbarek Warzazi, for a further two years in order tofollow up and monitor developments in the elimination of traditional practicesaffecting the health of women and children through, in particular, the implementation of the Plan of Action for the Elimination of TraditionalPractices Affecting the Health of Women and Children (E/CN.4/Sub.2/1994/10/Add.1 and Corr.1).
