The exhibition was mounted as part of Soka Gakkai International's effort to support the United Nations' World Information Campaign for Human Rights. This exhibition is composed of four sections. The first reviews the development of human rights concepts and international legislation. The second and third sections depict the reality of human rights abuses and portray the struggle of individuals and groups confronting these threats. The fourth section explores fundamental solutions to challenges of human rights.

The photography exhibition was first held at the United Nations University Headquarters in Tokyo, Japan, from 9-16 April 1993. The exhibit was subsequently adapted for other countries.
Soka Gakkai International is a global Buddhist association that is involved in numerous peace, refugee relief and humanitarian aid endeavors as part of its overall activities.
