Content

The course aims primarily to give the participants information and skills that would benefit their daily work with human rights. Moreover, as the course provides a forum for the discussion of human rights issues in formal as well as informal settings, the participants may form networks, which can support the dissemination of human rights information and further cooperation among various countries and regions of the world.
The course consists of two parts. The first part of the course introduces the participants to global and regional human rights instruments and institutions, including examples of domestic implementation. The second part of the course takes a thematic approach to human rights issues, such as discrimination and equal opportunities, the concept of a fair trial, civil and political rights, etc. The Danish Centre for Human Rights arranges visits to Danish organisations and institutions of relevance to the elected themes, such as the Parliament, the Ombudsman institution, a reception centre for asylum seekers, a police station, and a prison.
The themes differ from course to course. The course aims to facilitate the exchange of human rights experiences from all over the world, and its participatory approach is thus fundamental, i.e. by using plenum sessions, workshops, case-studies, etc.
