This book gives an overview of human rights education in Asian schools, mainly focusing on experiences at the primary and secondary school levels that reflect the general character of the work in the region. This document includes both the papers circulated at a regional meeting on the same subject in September 1997 in Bangkok and additional papers solicited thereafter from other groups. After an introduction and an analysis of general perspectives and experiences of human rights education in Asian schools, particular sub-regional experiences (Northeast Asia, South Asia and Southeast Asia) are examined. Finally, the relationship between human rights education and culture, on the one hand, and commonalities and challenges among regional experiences, on the other, are analyzed. | |
