Contenido | The Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights conducts this intensive, two-hundred hour course of instruction. The course consists of sessions of three to four days every two weeks.
The school has two educational "paths:" for future educators and for local human rights activists.
To graduates of the Human Rights School, the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights offers advanced courses so that they may expand their knowledge of specific areas, such as the rights of the child, prisoners' rights, the rights of psychiatric patients, or the techniques of monitoring the right to a fair trial.
In 1994, the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights started a program of financial support for educational programs run by our Human Rights School graduates.
In 1994 and 1995, the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights organized the first pilot courses of instruction for leaders of human rights NGOs; the subject was management of such organizations. The program included strategic planning, organization of work, fund-raising, evaluation, and elements of the techniques of monitoring. This project led to training courses for various professional groups.

The graduates are fully qualified to teach human right and constitutionalism in their respective local or professional communities.
Since the first Human Rights School course, almost 400 participants have been graduated -- from new Mas to university professors and judges. The graduates have formed a network to stay in touch with the Helsinki Foundation, meeting once a year at a "reunion" to exchange experiences and attend lectures on topics that are of current importance to them.
The graduates organize local courses for teachers, the staff of school superintendents' offices, and school headmasters, as well as open lectures, etc. Some have introduced human rights into the curriculum of the schools where they teach. Graduates interested in specific subjects voluntarily come together, forming teams for the rights of the patient, the rights of the child, and so on.
It is by design that the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights refrains from setting up local branches; a network of independent local or specialized non-governmental organizations is considered a much stronger structure than a single centralized organization. So far, the graduates of the Human Rights School have officially registered over twenty non-governmental organizations across the country. The organizations have brought forth an extensive human rights movement in Poland.
The pilot courses for instruction for leaders of human rights non-governmental organizations had Polish, as well as Spanish and English, lecturers.
